Nausea - Beck - The Information (2006)

Sometimes it’s necessary to vent about the world. Actually it’s healthy because it’s a sign that you’re lack of complacency is affect some change in this world. I guess that’s what Beck is trying to communicate in his song, Nausea.

Beck at the Live At The Rehearsal Hall performance

The song is very rhythmic and feels like you are on a slow moving arduous boat ride. Boom boom boom from the drum (in the live performance) makes you feel the waves of disappointment, disgust, and reality.

I caught this song on the Bravo Channel, with Beck performing on the Live at the Rehearsal Hall show. His new album is excellent and this song was especially poignant. Maybe because it wasn’t interrupted by the Bravo Channel’s commercials! Haha.

The Live At The Rehearsal performance was absolutely phenomenal. They brought out all the eclectic sounds — from water glasses to “sitcom bass” jams. You must see this performance. Unfortunatley there is no youtube.com posting of this performance because it is too new, but the Bravo channel has supplied small clips of some great songs.

If only Beck can realize that he sounds great live without all the flashy background noises, and can get the point across even better.

Anyhow. I recommend at least a one glance over the lyrics (below), and a view of a youtube click (also provided below).

Here are the lyrics, from onlylyrics.com:

1, 2, 3, 4

Now I’m a seasick sailor
On a ship of noise
I got my maps all backwards
And my instincts poisoned
In a truth blown gutter
Full of wasted years
Like blown-out speakers
Ringin’ in my ears

Oh it’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone
It’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone

Now I’m a straight-line walker
In a black-out room
I push a shopping cart over
In an Aztec ruin
With my minion fingers
Working for some God
Who could see his own reflection
In a parking lot

Oh it’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone
No it’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone

Now I’m a priest teenager
On a tower of dust
I’m a dead generator
In a cloud of exhaust
I eat alone in the desert
With skulls for my pets
I rate the days, one to ten
With lead cigarettes

It’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone
It’s nausea, oh nausea
And we’re gone

There is a literary term for these type of expressions. I’ve been scratching my head over this for a good 5 minutes and still, my silly skull can’t spit it out. If any of you know a good term for these lyrics. Please leave a comment below and share with the rest of the world.

If I have enticed you enough to learn more about beck. Here is more deets (details) of their new album, The Information and some personally hand-picked links to purchase sheet music and other music goodies.
